1. Please tell me the difference between the Virginia's Descendants Genealogy CD and the Gedcom.
Actually both are on CD. However, the difference is that the first created was a backup file of the Virginia's Descendants file created with Family Tree Maker 2006 Program for Win98/ME/EP.
Therefore, it could only be restored to the same or a later version of a Family Tree Maker Program. The gedcom file, on the other hand, can be imported by any genealogy programs that allow importation of gedcom files, and is provided for those who either do not use Family Tree Maker, or use an earlier version than 2006.
Also available is a PDF file on cd-rom, which can be accessed on most computers, and of course, there are some printed reports on the smaller family files of 500 or less pages.
2. Is there any way to tell who is in a particular immigrant file?
Yes. You can view indexes for the individual immigrants by clicking on "Immigrant Indexes" in the left menu. The indexes list individuals included in a particular immigrant's file.
