Joseph Royall emigrated from his native England to Virginia in 1622 on the ship, "Charitie." He settled on Turkey Island Creek in Bermuda, then in the county of Henrico. Later, he moved to Charles City, County, on a plantation called "Dogham." Joseph married three times, the last wife being Catherine Banks, a beautiful redhead from Canterbury, County Kent, England. Joseph died in Charles City County in 1658, leaving issue by all three of his wives.
