| John Baylor emigrated from Tiverton, Devonshire, England to Virginia before 1650, and settled in Lancaster County. Little is known of the immigrant, but he left issue. One son, also named John, resided, first, in Gloucester, which he represented in the House of Burgesses, and later in King and Queen County, Virginia, which he also represented in the House of Burgesses. This son was a planter and a merchant, with his principal warehouses being located at "Baylor" on the Mattaponi, between Walkerton and King and Queen Courthouse. He married Lucy Todd, and died leaving issue.
