John Ashton emigrated from his native England to Virginia and appears first in the records of Westmoreland County, where he settled, on November 15, 1654, when he was granted 783 acres of land in that county for the adventure of sixteen persons to Virginia. He was then 31 years old according to his affidavit made in 1671. He died in 1677 in Westmoreland County, leaving issue.
