Henry Fleet emigrated from his native England to Virginia ca 1623 and settled in Lancaster County.
When Henry Speilman went to trade with Anocostan Indians on the Potomac in 1623, Fleet was among the 26 men who went with him.
He was captured and taken to their dwelling place which was near the present Washington Monument in the District of Columbia.
He became thoroughly familiar with language and customs of the Indians during his four years of captivity, and became a great asset to the colonies as an interpreter when ransomed in 1627.
He died in 1661, leaving issue.
