"Virginia's Descendants" provides information compiled from various sources on many Virginia immigrants and their descendants using Family Tree Maker 2006 for Windows98/ME/XP. Information is available on individual Virginia immigrants and their descendants in FTM backup, gedcom, and PDF formats on copyright-protected CDs. Besides requiring that you have a CD drive on your computer to access the information on the CDs, each format has it's own requirements, as well.

The information on the FTM Backup format must be restored to a Family Tree Maker 2006 genealogy program for Windows 98/ME/XP to be accessed. If you do not currently use this program, you can purchase the lastest version from Familytreemaker.com.

The Gedcom format, although accessible to more people, must still be imported into a genealogy program which supports importing gedcom files.

The Adobe Acrobat reader is required to view the PDF files on CD. The PDF format is modeled after the PostScript language and is device and resolution independent, making it accessible to almost anyone with a computer that has a cd drive. The Family Report pages in the PDF format can be viewed, searched, navigated and printed from your workstation using the freely available Acrobat Reader software from Adobe Systems Inc. Printed Reports are also available for some of the smaller reports of less than 500 pages.
